Open Day 2026 Berengarra School Families & Community

Community, connection and inclusive pathways

Berengarra School Open Day 2026 Welcomes Families, Professionals and Community Leaders

On Wednesday, 20 May 2026, Berengarra School opened its doors to parents, carers, educators, wellbeing staff, allied health professionals, and members of the wider community for Open Day 2026. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, reflecting our commitment to building genuine connections.

The afternoon was filled with friendly conversations and enthusiastic exploration, as visitors toured our vibrant learning spaces, met our dedicated staff, and gained a heartfelt understanding of the trauma-aware approach that guides everything we do at Berengarra School.

We were also pleased to welcome Cr Prue Cutts from Whitehorse City Council, who previously served on the Berengarra School Board, as well as Gabriel Ng MP, Member for Menzies. Their attendance reflected the importance of community connection and support for inclusive educational pathways for young people.

Throughout the event, guests toured the campus alongside teachers, wellbeing staff, and leadership team members who generously shared their experiences, knowledge, and passion for supporting students who may not have found success in mainstream school settings. Conversations focused on the importance of connection, safety, belonging, and creating learning environments where young people feel understood and supported.

“The campus buzzed with a sense of belonging, warmth and openness.”

Importantly, all Berengarra staff were involved across the afternoon, including our VCE staff from the Chadstone Campus. Families and professionals appreciated the opportunity to ask detailed questions about the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) and VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM), as well as the flexible senior pathways available for students in Years 11 and 12.

Conversations with community leaders

Many visitors were interested in learning about where these pathways can lead. After completing their VPC or VCE VM, Berengarra students typically move on to further education at TAFE or other training providers, begin apprenticeships, or seek employment. Some may pursue other post-school options based on their interests and strengths. Sharing these typical outcomes helped families gain a clearer understanding of the future opportunities available for Berengarra graduates.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was witnessing the genuine care and commitment our staff bring to their work every day. The campus buzzed with a sense of belonging, and many visitors remarked on the warmth, openness, and heartfelt stories shared throughout the event. It was a beautiful reminder that when people truly love what they do, meaningful conversations blossom naturally.

And, in true Melbourne fashion, the weather added a memorable moment to the day. It began raining at exactly 3:30 pm, which many families found amusing because parents often joke that “it always rains at school pick-up time.” Normally, our school day finishes at 2:40 pm, but for Open Day, it seemed the rain politely waited until visitors had arrived before making its appearance.

We warmly thank everyone who attended Open Day and took the time to connect with our community. The thoughtful conversations and shared moments made the afternoon special, and we look forward to welcoming and supporting young people and families seeking a fresh, caring approach to education.
